Every studio's website says the same things: expert instructors, welcoming community, state-of-the-art equipment. Useful for vibes, useless for choosing. Here's what actually separates a studio you'll keep going to from one you'll quietly stop attending.
Start with the intro offer
Almost every studio runs one — typically 2–3 weeks of unlimited classes for the price of a single drop-in. This is the only honest way to compare studios: book a few classes across two or three places before committing to a membership.
Things worth checking
- Class size. Reformer classes cap somewhere between 6 and 14. Smaller means more correction from the instructor — better when you're learning.
- Instructor consistency. Can you book the same teacher each week? Continuity matters more than it sounds.
- Schedule fit. The best studio is the one whose 6:15am class you'll actually make. Check the timetable against your real week, not your ideal one.
- ClassPass vs. membership. If you'll go 1–2 times a week, ClassPass is often cheaper. Three-plus and a membership usually wins.
Things that don't matter as much as you'd think
A glossy fit-out and a long list of "specialisations" look impressive but rarely change your week-to-week experience. Location and schedule beat amenities every time — a slightly plainer studio five minutes away will out-perform a beautiful one across town that you visit twice and abandon.
